The state of education as we know it is changing. With the recent explosion of online communication tools, online learning is growing faster than ever.
The North American Council for Online Learning (NACOL) is a relatively new organization devoted to K12 virtual schooling efforts. Through NACOL's research and advocacy, educators are able to find the support they need to stay current in this continually evolving field.
In this activity, you will use the Moodle Forum activity to assist in a modified Jigsaw reading activity of key NACOL publications to help you develop a knowledge base in the area of K12 online education.
Objectives
identify existing knowlege about online learning tools
develop questions to explore throughout the workshop
Post your takeaways as a new topic to the Jigsaw forum, note in your topic title if you read the Primer or the Blended Learning pages. (Topic title example: The Dragon Team Reads the Primer.)
Read the takeaways from other groups (start with groups that read the pages you didn't read) and discuss these with your group. Create a group reply to add to other groups' topics.
Note that this is a modified jigsaw :)
Post-Workshop Extension / Bridging Activities
Blurb about putting learning to practice in classroom and then sharing progress with others via blog, wiki contribution, etc.
