RETA OTL Wiki QuickStart Guide

For RETA Participants

Use this guide to help you add a page to our wiki.

Getting Started

Go to this website (http://reta-otl.pbwiki.com).

You will be using a guest account to access the wiki. The reason for this is for you to have exactly the right wiki access that you need. Check your RETA Moodle course (left hand sidebar) for your account login and password.

Visit this link if you are already using PBWiki and would like your account added, go to the access request page.

Logging In

  1. Click on log in in the upper right hand corner
  2. Enter the login and password you received from your RETA Moodle course.
  3. Once logged in, PBWiki will take you to a dashboard.
  4. Select this wiki (http://reta-otl.pbwiki.com).

Creating a page

  1. Click on create new page in the upper right area of the wiki.
  2. Type a name for your page. If this is a blueprint for your VLE activity, select the blueprint template.
  3. Click on the create new page button.
  4. You will now be taken to the editing view for your page.
  5. Notice the links to other pages can be inserted on the right.
  6. Notice that you can replace the text of the template.
  7. Click on Save under the text entry area to save the page.

Editing a page

You can edit pages that you have access to. Some pages are locked so that content can remain consistant for RETA Workshops. Please share your feedback for those locked pages with your RETA Instructor.

  1. Go to the page you want to edit.
  2. Click on the edit button along the top of the page.
  3. Make your changes.
  4. step
  5. Click on Save under the text entry area to save the page.

Adding tags to your page and connecting to a folder

Tags are like index words that help users find relevant information on the page.

  1. Go to the page you want to edit.
  2. Look for the 'add tags' link to the right of the page.
  3. Click add tags.
  4. Add words that describe the content of this page separated by commas (ie: lesson, database, language arts, technology).
  5. Click ok.
  6. Notice right next to that you can add a page to a folder. If your page is a blueprint, add it to the Bluprints folder.

Viewing the page history

Wikis can save all of the versions of a given page.

  1. Click on page history in the upper right hand area of the page.
  2. You will see each version listed by date next to the username of the person who created that version.
  3. Selecting a version allows you to look back in time.
  4. Reverting to a previous version causes you to lose all future versions. BE CAREFUL!
